MiCo+ Facilitates Indonesia’s Digital Health Transformation

As the world's largest archipelago nation, Indonesia consists of approximately 17,505 islands and is the fourth most populous country in the world. Given its vast geographical expanse and large, scattered population distribution, it is very urgent to make efficient use of the limited domestic medical resources and popularize high-quality healthcare service. Following the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Indonesian government has formulated the 2024 Digital Health Transformation Strategy, aiming to create a "Healthy Indonesia," and has issued guidelines for remote medical services to enhance the fairness of healthcare resources through digital health applications.

Due to the nature of ultrasound medicine itself, the varying scanning skills and diagnostic abilities of ultrasound doctors, as well as the difficulty in unifying ultrasound quality control standards and regulations, have become two key factors affecting diagnostic quality.

Especially in Indonesia's numerous grassroots healthcare institutions, the capacity for ultrasound medical services is limited. Through MiCo+ IT platform, the Indonesian Ministry of Health has achieved interconnection with basic healthcare institutions. Ultrasound images can be directly connected to the Indonesian Healthcare Big Data Platform, facilitating real-time transmission of images and examination results, which helps identify and intervene in pregnancy complications and developmental delays at an early stage, thus improving the quality of healthcare services for nationwide residents.

By utilizing MiCo+ platform, experienced ultrasound doctors can guide grassroots doctors in standardized operating procedures and share clinical practice experiences, and support the improvement of skills of grassroots physicians. When faced with challenging cases, remote consultations can also be conducted, allowing residents to access high-quality expert resources within their reach.

Every Progress is Within Reach

In terms of training and education, MiCo+ platform has also played a significant role in Indonesia. The country faces a severe shortage of medical personnel, with only about 0.4 doctors per 1,000 people. This number is significantly lower than neighboring countries such as Malaysia (1.9 doctors per 1,000 people) and Singapore (2.3 doctors per 1,000 people). [1]

Traditional medical training requires a substantial investment of time and cost. For ultrasound, practical demonstrations are essential. Utilizing the real-time imaging app "u-Llinker", MiCo+ has provided a fast, stable, and authentic remote imaging platform and immersive remote ultrasound training model. Sonographers can break the constraints of geography, engaging in remote training, quality control, and teaching anytime, anywhere, helping more grassroots ultrasound doctors learn at their convenience and making progress within everyone's reach.

Moreover, MiCo+ allows more new approaches to solve the shortage of doctors in Indonesia. It is hoped that by implementing such a remote training model, more outstanding medical talents can be cultivated in Indonesia, raising the overall level of healthcare and benefiting the population in need of medical services.

During this visit, President Joko Widodo expressed that the connectivity and transformation of basic medical data in Indonesia shall be accelerated. The Minister of Health, the Digital Transformation Office of the Ministry of Health, and the health authorities of Central Java Province also indicated that MiCo+ will help achieve interconnection in basic healthcare, empower remote quality control and educational training, and in the future, further cooperation will be explored with Mindray.

With the continuous advancement of Indonesia's 2024 Digital Health Transformation Strategy and the ongoing popularization of remote medical services, Mindray will continue to collaborate with medical institutions and healthcare providers at all levels in Indonesia, promoting high-end medical technology and allowing more people to share quality healthcare.
