1

Traveling in Egypt today, there's a big chance you will encounter a salient scenery in fluorescent yellow working around the clock on the busy streets of Cairo and other large cities on the high ways to cover every spot of Egypt.

Since August 2022, a special taskforce of paramedics has been put on duty by the Egyptian Ambulance Organization (EAO), driving electric scooters to deliver fast and efficient first-aid services to serve saving lives. The eco-friendly electric scooters, with high maneuverability to pass through city centers, especially in traffic congestion, joined the EAO network to improve the organization's emergency response capacities.

Niche innovations while benefiting a lot like this are the direction that EAO has been aiming for years since it was founded in 2009 to offer cutting-edge prehospital medical services.

Building Up A More Efficient Ambulance System in Egypt

Adhering to the mission of providing the best ambulance service for residents according to international standards, EAO has developed a comprehensive first-aid network covering road ambulance service, river and maritime ambulance service, and air ambulance service, which constitutes a fully integrated matrix of services to guarantee for local people and foreign tourists.

The organization continues to explore different approaches to enhance its efficiency and the availability of services. Installing AEDs in ambulances turned out to be a great way in its practices.

As the backbone of ambulance services, paramedics help ensure that the vital signs of patients are stable before reaching the hospitals. They are trained healthcare professionals and even acquire equivalent training to physicians, having good medical knowledge in practicing CPR and first aid skills to deal with medical emergencies.

To facilitate their daily work better, EAO equipped all ambulance vehicles with ADE devices.

Acting as A Hero: How AEDs Benefit First-aid Personnel

AEDs, namely Automated External Defibrillators, are portable medical devices to help treating cardiac arrest together with the CPR process, which can be used by laypeople without professional medical backgrounds and usually are installed in easy access at public places.

In 2019, EAO added a new patch to the ambulance vehicle fleet with Mindray's BeneHeart D1 devices. After two years, another huge patch unit of Mindray AEDs were ordered together with the organization's expansion of services for the benefit of Decent Life Initiative.

These highly reliable and easy-to-use devices have soon been proven to be an efficient solution to support onsite emergencies, receiving high acknowledgment from paramedics and medical staff.

When the lightweight and compact machine was introduced to paramedics in EAO, it soon gained their favor as well as high evaluation. With the user-friendly interface, BeneHeart D1 provides a complete 1-2-3 step process to deliver high-quality shocks to patients; its intelligent functions such as auto-identify patient type also shorten the response time a lot, making the lifesaving aid more efficient.

In life-threatening situations, the ability to provide efficient and effective emergency medical care can make the difference between life and death. Mindray devices are very easy to use while offering all standard AED functions, which greatly supports our mission to providing better healthcare to more residents.

Together for A Healthier Egypt: Raising Public Awareness of First-aid

As a government institute, EAO not only provides efficient and high-quality ambulance services but also holds the responsibility of community training and raising public awareness in the whole country. Sharing the same mission, Mindray joined in and has become a significant partner to provide such kinds of education and awareness initiatives together with EAO.

In April 2022, co-organized with the local distribution partner, Mindray team held training classes at the training center of EAO. The ambulance crew received detailed updates on BeneHeart D1 and practiced it during the hands-on process.

As part of its community awareness initiative, EAO also held a workshop at the Cairo International Book Fair in 2023. The workshop was designed to educate visitors on how to deal with a cardiac arrest situation by using CPR maneuvers and Mindray AED simulators.

Based on these successful practices, a series of educational classes in medical emergency awareness for the community are going to be planned with EAO in the future with the support of Mindray AEDs to cover all sectors of the community.

Mindray is proud to be a trusted partner of the Egyptian ambulance organization in its efforts to improve first-aid services and we will continue implementing more effective solutions together for a healthier Africa.
