Mindray' Efforts on Silk Road of Health Cooperation

"Asian Medical Week" – Asia Medical Innovation and Development Forum, co-organized by Mindray, was held in Shanghai on October 10, attracting more than 180 overseas representatives from nearly 40 medical institutions across Asia, Africa, Europe and North America. They exchanged ideas with their Chinese counterparts on disease diagnosis and treatment as well as the cooperation between hospitals and enterprises. The Forum served as to promote medical exchanges and health governance across the globe and build Shanghai the "Asian Medical Center".

 

The Forum was hosted by Xin Wang, Party Secretary of Zhongshan Hospital. Many leaders and guests attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches, including Yixin Zeng, Ming Zong, Yang Jiao and Jie He from China and Ivan Stilidi from Russia.

 

Jia Fan, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and President of Zhongshan Hospital (affiliated with Fudan University), indicated that "Asian Medical Week" was a vital academic platform for medical exchanges and cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region. The theme of 2018 "Asian Medical Week" was "Asian Hospital Innovation and Development”, which gave an opportunity for participants to discuss on latest strategies for hospital management and use medical innovations to build a better "Asian Medical Center".

He indicated that, the second Asia Medical Week, themed as "Synergized Innovation and Sustained Development", was a response to the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and Healthy Shanghai Action. It also served as a platform for medical institutions worldwide to exchange ideas.

Zaiwen Li, Senior Vice-President of Mindray, argued that the profound cooperation between the international medical community and innovation-driven medical enterprises was the key driving force for Mindray's global presence.

 

"Belt and Road" Cancer Prevention and Treatment

The Forum was divided into two sessions, one was Zhongshan Hospital Cancer Prevention and Treatment Center Annual Meeting, the other being Transplantation and Hospital Management Session. The opening ceremony witnessed the birth of the Alliance, and representatives from over 30 medical institutions Shanghai, Yunnan, Gansu and countries along the "Belt and Road" jointly signed the Alliance Agreement. In the future, members of the Alliance will enhance exchanges and collaborate on major disease projects to speed up effective cancer prevention with countries in the BRI and make Shanghai more recognized in global health governance.

The Cancer Prevention and Treatment Center of Zhongshan Hospital houses the most patients, the largest number of cancer types and the most comprehensive subjects in China. Its interdisciplinary MDT team is built on multidisciplinary collaboration model. From single-disciplinary mode to multi-disciplinary collaboration, from one hospital to an alliance of hospitals to Cancer Prevention and Treatment Alliance, we have witnessed the expansion of cooperation. Ivan Stilidi, Academician of Russian Academy of Sciences and Director of the National Medical Oncology Research Center in Blokhin, Russia, argued that the Alliance could promote more in-depth cooperation and contribute to more breakthroughs in cancer prevention and treatment.

During the Week, Zhongshan Hospital held a number of sessions on gastrointestinal tract tumors, head and neck tumors, basic translational research and other specific areas. Pengcheng Huang, Deputy General Manager of Domestic Marketing at Mindray, and Yong Yang, Director of International Ultrasound Marketing at Mindray made opening speeches in Ultrasound session. Speeches given by leading professors, including Richard Gary Barr, Alexios C Kelekis, Pindong Huang, and Wenping Wang, were well received among the audience.

"Belt and Road" Transplantation

At the same time, in the sub-forum of Renji Hospital Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine, doctors fully discussed on the transplantation procedures and hospital management in Renji Hospital, to promote breakthroughs and innovations in Asian countries.

The Department of Liver Surgery at Renji Hospital Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine is the largest liver transplantation center in China, and the largest pediatric liver transplantation center in the world. In the sub-forum, Weiping Li, President of Renji Hospital, gave the opening speech. He deemed the forum as a great opportunity to pool global medical experts to exchange ideas on new trends and achievements in transplantation and hospital management.

Asia Medical Week has become an important platform to promote medical exchanges and cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region. Medical experts from all over the world discussed the cutting - edge concepts and clinical practices in cancers, transplantation and hospital management in nearly 90 sessions this year. They joined the Alliance and worked to build a community with a shared future for mankind. Mindray has been and will be actively cooperating with countries in the BRI to make better healthcare for all.

 

On November 22 and 23, Mindray will join the first "Asian Medical Week in Indonesia" with Dr.Sardjito General Hospital in Indonesia, University Gadjah Mada and Zhongshan Hospital. More than 200 experts around the world will then gather in Yogyakarta to exchange ideas on medical innovation and development. Stay tuned.
