On the morning of January 20, large-scale events on topics of 120 National First-Aid Day Initiative & Public Training on First-aid, and First-aid, You Can Do it hit the headlines. Over 50,000 people were trained in 63 urban first-aid centers and 102 hospitals in cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Yinchuan, Haikou, Urumqi, Harbin, Shenyang, Yichang, and Kunming. CCTV News broadcasted the live event in Beijing, the main venue.
At the event in Beijing, Wenzhong Zhang, chairman of the EMCBCHA, read out the "Initiative of Defining January 20 as National First Aid Day by the China Emergency Medical Association (CEMA)", where Yahui Jiao, Hushan Ao and other guests attended and delivered speeches. At the event, Mindray donated external automatic defibrillators (AEDs) to the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone (BETDZ), and provided enablement of Mindray's AED training machines to the 150 representatives of high-risk profession students.
It is pointed out inChina Cardiovascular Disease Report 2011 that every year about 550,000 people die from heart disease in China, and 1,500 people die from SCD each day. Sadly, more than 90% of SCD events occur outside the hospital, and the survival rate is less than 1% if a defibrillator is not used for resuscitation within 10 minutes. Since irreversible damage to brain cells occurs in four minutes after a cardiac arrest at normal room temperature, first responders and AEDs are two key factors in saving patients suffering SCD in public places.
As China's first CFDA-certified AED, the Mindray AED solved ten hundreds of technological restrictions, and established a Chinese National Standard for Biphasic Defibrillation. Mindray is committed to promoting the PAD initiative, and making AEDs more widely accessible. As for using AEDs, host Hui Kang said, "This AED has voice prompts, it is easy to learn." He continued, "The training will give you confidence. AEDs can play a key role if they are available in public places like firefighting equipment, and are used properly by people."
Since the end of 2018, Mindray's life-saving AEDs have been placed at airports, high-speed rail stations, educational institutions, judicial institutions, and other public places in Shanghai, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, and other major cities. In the last year alone, Mindray's AEDs were successfully used in more than 12 emergency cases. On January 5, 2019, the staff at Jinling Hotel Nanjing successfully saved a patient's life using Mindray's AED.
"The initiative aims to make first-aid as a priority in the society, and driving general public to actively learn skills and offer first-aid help." said Wenzhong Zhang at the event. Mindray will continue to develop leading medical solutions and work with government agencies to promote public defibrillation and enhance people’s confidence in offering first-aid help.
