Mindray Sails with Mercy Ships on a Journey of Hope
Delivering Healing and Healthcare to Africa

Africa grapples with weak medical infrastructure, a shortage of healthcare talent, poverty, and low health awareness, leading to treatment delays and unaffordable care.

Since 2017, Mindray has provided over 350 patient monitors and ultrasound systems to the organization. In 2025, the two formed a strategic partnership involving medical donations and technical support. Mindray is committed to supporting the completion of over 50,000 surgeries, extending quality medical resources across Africa.

Approximately 170 million people in Sub-Saharan Africa representing over 95% of the population lack access to essential surgical care.

The region suffers from an acute shortage of surgeons, with a density of only 0.2 to 1.0 per 100,000 people, drastically below the World Health Organization standard of 20 per 100,000[1].

Over 15% of the continent's population lives two or more hours away from a hospital[2].

Mercy Ships operates hospital ships that deliver free surgeries and other healthcare services to those with little access to safe medical care. An international faith-based organization, Mercy Ships has focused entirely on partnering with African nations for the past three decades. Working with in-country partners, Mercy Ships also provides training to local healthcare professionals and supports the construction of in-country medical infrastructure to leave a lasting impact.
