Medical practitioners are entrusted with the well-being of their patients and as such need the best medical training before that responsibility is placed in their hands in real-life situations. Whereas nothing can replace the experience built up with actual practice, simulation of medical care can go a long way in familiarizing trainee practitioners with standard procedures, use of medical equipment, and the appropriate response in emergency situations.

The Medical Simulation Center of Ruijin Hospital in Shanghai is dedicated to this vital medical training. Founded in 1907, the hospital is affiliated with the School of Medicine at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Although one of the oldest hospitals in China, as well as one of the largest, it’s also known for its advanced facilities and innovative practices in medical simulation training.

The ICU and OR training units of the center are fully equipped with a comprehensive range of Mindray operating tables, respiratory and anesthesia machines, patient monitors, and defibrillators, providing a complete simulation environment for authentic situation training. Complete with a model patient that can imitate the human pulse, blood pressure, heartbeat and other important signs, the glass walls of the room allow for an observation and control room.

Both medical students and more experienced doctors can master all the equipment by repeated training exercises, and hone their responses to unexpected medical events without risk. This gives the students more proficiency in confidence in routine procedures and teamwork, allows for collaborative training of interdisciplinary teams, and gives students more confidence that ultimately reduces mistakes made under pressure in a live situation.

The digital interconnection of Mindray devices and solutions also satisfies the information needs for optimal training in clinical applications.

Professor Shen Baiyong, head of the Medical Simulation Center has high expectations. “I’m looking forward to seeing the next batch of young practitioners emerge as confident individuals and a coordinated fighting force ready to face any situation in the emergency room, just like a well-trained army in combat,” he said. Mindray stands by his side as a trusted partner to help realize those ambitions.
