New Medical Technology Provides Safeguard
at Ice and Snow Event

Beijing ushers in the beginning of 2022 with the 24th Winter Olympic Games, a major winter sports event featuring 2,851 participating athletes from 89 countries around the world. It's no simple task providing medical support given the high risks associated with this event, and the ease with which disease could spread between sites located in different areas. Therefore, strict disease control and prevention measures are imperative. Working with other top medical institutes, Mindray has developed smart connection solutions for the event to provide efficient and effective medical care services to the global athletes.

Challenges with Providing Medical Support at the Winter Olympics and Paralympic Games

Limited mobility due to disease control measures

Due to the pandemic, staff mobility will be limited and medical resources will be relatively scattered. Therefore, remote operational guidance is required.

Greater risk of injury on the ice and snow

Since winter sports are mostly very difficult and dangerous, medical support is an important part of running a successful event. All of the competition zones must be equipped with first-class medical equipment and rescue personnel.

Scattered competition venues

There are three major competition zones for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games, namely Beijing, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou. The competition venues are located between these three zones.

Sun Chunlan

Vice Premier of the State Council

We adhere to the principle of putting life first, and comply with "quick, standardized, safe" service requirements. On-site rescue is our priority, for which we have optimized the transfer process to ensure an optimal rescue as quickly as possible. We ensure that key rescue facilities such as first aid equipment, medicines, ambulances and helicopters, are ready and in good condition by performing test runs and actual on-site drills. This helps to improve rescues in competition areas, admissions to designated hospitals, psychological counselling and other parts of the medical support system.

Cui Guoqing

Sports Medicine Specialist, Peking University Third Hospital

The mobility and dynamic structure of ultrasonography is very valuable in the diagnosis of rotator cuff injuries. In addition, ultrasound is very advantageous when checking for fluids. Physicians will have more confidence when puncturing a fluid site under ultrasound guidance. Therefore, ultrasound should be applied more often in the sports medicine field.
