It is reported that over 12,000 athletes from 45 Asian countries and regions will participate in the Asian Games, making it the largest ever in the event's history.

Hangzhou authority predicted that over 20 million visitors and spectators for the games will come during the Asian Games, which coincides with an 8-day National Holiday. And the city of Hangzhou alone has over 12.3 million local residents.

This means greater challenges for the local healthcare system: How to make sure that the significantly increasing emergency rescue, critical care needs are satisfied during an international event under the spotlight? How to support professional medical facilities and teams to be better prepared for any emergency in Hangzhou and beyond?
Mindray’s team have been working with the local hospitals and NGOs to offer innovative, integrated and inter-connected solutions.

And on September 7th, as the hospital’s very first 5G Mobile ICU got officially deployed, the doctors and nurses could offer critical care to patients on site, where and when emergency rescue are most urgently needed. It is reported that this innovative mobile ICU, converted from an EV bus, is the world’s very first of its kind.

Dr. Xu Shanxiang, Chair of Emergency Medicine and his team had been working hard to convert an EV bus into a full-functioning ICU that can provide critical care to patients and even perform emergency surgeries when needed.

Mindray’s innovative products, including the multi-talent BeneHeart DX defibrillator, integrating defibrillation, vital signs monitoring, ultrasound and ECG, and the TV50 transport ventilator, designed to best support patient’s transportation, are integrated in this mobile ICU. Mindray’s smart infusion system is also deployed.

With the support of M-Connect solution, all Mindray devices are integrated and coordinated, with a large touch screen showing all information needed and doctors can adjust treatment with a few touches on the screen... giving the doctors and nurses strong boost for on-site diagnosis and rescue. And more importantly, such system will greatly improve the emergency rescue efficiency and safety during patient’s transportation.

The mobile ICU is designed to offer emergency treatment for three to four patients at a time, which require high-level of integration of medical equipment on board. The bus can move to any public places with huge crowds during the Asian Games.

What’s more, the mobile ICU can be connected with the hospital via the 5G network, making real-time consultation and rescue guidance by experts possible. Doctors in the hospital, based on the live signals from the vehicle, can activate preparation work from the emergency room to operation room and later to the ICU.

In an interview with China Central Television, Dr. Wang Jian’an, President of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Chair of the Heart Center and a renowned interventional cardiologist, said the innovative mobile 5G ICU is not only prepared for the Hangzhou Asian Games, but also will be standing by for future emergency rescue, disaster relief and large-scale events.

Dr Wangjianan

Moving forward, we want to better benefit the general public. More importantly, I believe that through the improvement of our ability in emergency rescue, we will further promote the level of mobile first aid in China.

The Asian Games Sailing Center in Xiangshan County of Ningbo City, the venue for the sailing contests of the Hangzhou Asian Games, is required to provide very unique first-aid work as sailing contests will take place far in the sea.

When needed, Xiangshan local professional rescue team need to rush to the sailing boats in the sea by fast boats to provide emergency medical care to the athletes on board. Mindray’s multi-functional ultrasound and vital sign monitoring mobile devices are selected by the rescue team.

If severely-injured patients were needed to be transported to the hospitals for critical care, doctors can consult with top experts in Hangzhou via a 5G smart network. The network can share real-time vitals and imaging. Such digital connections have been in place long before the Asian Games to bring the best medical minds together. Such systems are not designed specifically for big events, as local communities and residents can benefit in the long run.
