SHENZHEN, China, March 30th -- The launch ceremony of the Chengdu R&D Center and Southwest Regional Headquarters project funded by Mindray was held on March 29 in Chengdu. Standing committee members of the CPC Chengdu Committee and the Secretary of the Chengdu Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone Party Working Committee, Jinggang, leaders of the Administrative Commission of the Chengdu Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone and Mindray's President and co-chief executive officer, Li Xiting, attended the launch ceremony.
At the launch ceremony, Li Xiting said that the establishment of the Chengdu R&D center would take full advantage of existing technology skills as well as the current bio-pharmaceutical industrial base at Chengdu. Through the integration of production, education, research and extensive technical cooperation, the center will promote technology R&D and transformation of achievements. It will also enhance core technology innovation and prehension of independent intellectual property rights in the field of ultrasound and hematology, and contribute to the further development of bio-pharmaceutical technology in Chengdu and China.
Leaders of the Chengdu Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone congratulated Mindray on the establishment of the Chengdu R&D Center. They said that as a global innovation leader in the medical diagnostic equipment field, the Mindray Southwest Regional Headquarters, R&D, sales and production base in Chengdu will improve the bio-pharmaceutical industry chain in the Southwest. The Chengdu Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone will provide Mindray with high quality services and assist with the construction and operation of Mindray projects in Chengdu. In addition, it will enhance Chengdu's influence in the national bio-pharmaceutical industry.
The Mindray Chengdu R&D Center and Southwest Regional Headquarters are located in the South Park of the Chengdu Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone. It is estimated that the total investment in the project will reach RMB one billion. The project aims to build a technology and service platform for R&D in ultrasound, hematology and reagents. It is expected to be completed at the end of 2013. Following completion, an R&D team of over 500 staff and a marketing team of 300~500 staff will be formed. In addition, Mindray plans to construct a supporting production base in the West Park of the Chengdu Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone, which will bring in an annual income of more than RMB one billion. Mindray Chengdu projects will be another milestone in the company's development from an industry leading enterprise to a large-scale enterprise after the establishment of the Xi'an R&D Center.
