Do you know?

Unlike adults with COVID-19, only a third of children had respiratory symptoms[1], which caused more challenges for clinical diagnosis. At the same time, recent reports revealed that children can become seriously sicken which require intensive care even with no obvious respiratory symptoms associated with COVID-19[1]. The severe systemic inflammatory syndrome associated with SARS-CoV-2 is named MIS-C.[2]

What is MIS-C?

A new, serious COVID-19 cardiovascular presentation emerged recently in the form of pediatric multi-system inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C), which includes features similar to Kawasaki disease.[1][3]

What are the symptoms?[1]

How to check?

Ultrasound among different diagnostic modalities plays a very important role and in particular, transthoracic echocardiography is useful in patients who fall short of full clinical criteria, as the presence:

Early diagnosis and treatment of patients meeting full or partial criteria for MIS-C is critical to preventing end-organ damage and other long-term complications.
