Tata Trusts and Dr. B Borooah Cancer Hospital at Guwahati, Assam have initiated a cancer screening project. A team of doctors, nurses, healthcare workers have been trained in preventive oncology and undertake a community outreach program at the district for the same.

Tests performed for detection of oral cancer includes General Examination which gives detailed case history from demographic information, risk factor assessment measures, anthropometric parameters as well as diabetes and hypertension at the campsite.

Mindray has supported this welfare project by providing vehicle support to the organization.

Designing a model for cancer screening and early detection is of utmost priority in India. Different strategies have been attempted which include either focusing on a single cancer type or offering cancer screening as part of the overall non-communicable disease (NCD) screening package.

The potential advantage of the latter is the optimum use of human resources in a resource constraint setting, especially in rural and remote settings.

Additionally, there is an overlap of demographic and risk factors in the population, which makes it ideal to work as a composite unit for screening. Oral cancer ranks in the top three of all cancers in India, which accounts for over thirty percent of all cancers reported in the country, and oral cancer control is quickly becoming a global health priority.

Mindray will be actively engaged in supporting various such initiatives in the future. Dedicated to making better healthcare solutions more accessible to humanity, Mindray sees supporting medical institutions as our responsibility.
