Carbon Reduction Plan

Supplier Name: Mindray UK Limited

Publication Date: 23rd January 2024

Commitment to Achieving Net Zero

Mindray UK Limited is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions from Scope 1 and 2 by 2045 and Scope 3 emissions by 2050.

Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced before the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured. Scope 1 and 2 were reported for the first time for years 2022.

Scope 3 was calculated for the first time for the year 2023. To fully understand our environmental impact, we have calculated emissions from full upstream not only within United Kingdom borders.

In the next 3 years, we will expand our measurements of Scope 3 including packaging and supply chain. The emissions for all the scopes were calculated for the full calendar year (between the 1st of January and the 31st of December).

Additional Details relating to the Baseline Emissions calculations.

Mindray initiated reporting for scope 1 and 2 in 2022, as it is the first full year post-COVID. It therefore provides a fair representation of the company's emissions.

Scope 3 baseline for the five categories was calculated for the year 2023 using the distance-based and location-based method and the greenhouse gas conversion factor 2023 or calculated by supplier's emissions data.

The emissions for all scopes were calculated for full calendar year (between 1st of January and 31st of December)

Emissions Reduction Targets

Scope 1 and 2

Mindray's organisation and asset management have limited controllable emissions from Scope 1 and 2. These can be lowered by switching to a 100% renewable electricity tariff by 2030.

Scope 3

Mindray is committed to account for all our emissions. In the next 3 years, we will add additional categories to our Scope 3 measurements, understanding that this may increase our overall total emissions.

Transport and Business travel contribute to our greatest emissions when calculating our Scope 3 measurements. In the next 12 months, we will prepare a detailed plan on how to address these hot spots. This will allow us to have more accurate data and improved reduction forecast.

We predict that with the strong carbon reduction project we may decrease carbon emissions by over one hundred tonnes each year.

Progress against these targets can be seen in the graph below:

Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives

Mindray Global

Mindray has introduced several global initiatives to reduce emissions. Please see our full report at: Mindray 2022 ESG Report

Mindray UK

We have implemented ISO 14001 Environmental Management SystemMindray UK has introduced local warehouses to minimise the impact of distribution. We have incorporated sustainability measurements within our Integrated Management System, which will allow for carbon management to be central to our corporate strategy. In the following years, Mindray UK is going to improve planning, develop Sustainability assessments for suppliers, and provide sustainability training to our UK employees including promoting the replacement of petrol/diesel cars by hybrid or electric cars. As 2023 is our baseline year, for Scope 3 emissions, we plan to develop a detailed carbon management and reduction plan in the next 12 months, which will allow for better predictions of carbon reductions in the following years.

Carbon Offsetting

Mindray UK, with the help of Carbon Footprint, has offset 335 t CO2 e in 2022 and 2023 by supporting the building of renewable energy sources in developing countries. We have decided to pause offsetting to invest in local action, which will allow us to address our emissions directly. We will review the need for offsetting on an annual basis.

Declaration and Sign-off

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed under PPN 06/21 and associated guidance and reporting standards for Carbon Reduction Plans. Emissions have been reported and recorded per the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the GHG Reporting Protocol corporate standard1 and use the appropriate Government emission conversion factors for greenhouse gas company reporting2.

Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions have been reported following SECR requirements and the required subset of Scope 3 emissions have been reported following the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard 3.

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been reviewed and signed off by the board of directors (or equivalent management body).
