Bali, 30 October 2022 – Themed “Building Bridges, Connecting Visions”, Mindray successfully held the 2022 SEA & SA Mindray Ultrasound Forum in October 30th in Bali, Indonesia. More than 150 participants from Indonesia, the Philippines, and Thailand joined the academic forum where experts exchange their clinical expertise and share insights on industry-leading technologies.
At the opening ceremony of the forum, Mindray officially launched a multicenter research program on “Combined Abdominal and Pelvic Ultrasound”, which is led by two Principal Investigator (PI) institutes: HUGI (Indonesian Urogynecology Association) and The Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University from China. Leading experts from seven participating hospitals in Indonesia: RS YPK Mandiri Hospital, RSUPN Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, RSUP Dr. Sardjito Hospital, RSUP Hasan Sadikin Hospital, RSUP Prof. Ngoerah Denpasar Hospital, RSUD Dr. Soetomo Hospital, RSUP Dr. Kariadi Hospital, also celebrated the milestone moment with all guests.
Prof. Dr. dr. Budi Iman Santoso, Chairman of HUGI said “Based on the study about Prevalence of Pelvic Floor Disorders (PFD) in Tertiary Care Center in Indonesia [1], the prevalence of patients with PFD was 33%. The prevalence of Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP), Urinary Incontinence (UI), and Fecal Incontinence (FI) were 26.4%, 15.3% and 2.5% respectively. It should be noted that there are still limited studies on PFD in Southeast Asian Women and a difference in the management of PFD among SEA countries. The diverse and complex situation happening in different parts of the region poses another challenge when implementing guidelines developed in the western world. Therefore, we need solid collaborated commitment to make specific guidelines to apply in the SEA region.”
Neil Armstrong said, "Research is creating new knowledge." Mindray’s pursuit to provide healthcare within reach, driven by the spirit of innovation and accessibility, then became the key driver to the launch of the multicenter research which is hoped to shed new light on the issue and help populations in the SEA region to receive better healthcare.
Speaking of the details of the multicenter research project, Prof. ZHANG Xinling said “This project will be performed by ultrasound in multiple aspects. First, we would like to explore the feasibility of an antepartum ultrasound examination to predict the delivery mode. Second, to judge the progress of labor by antepartum ultrasound. Third, to analyze the correlation between antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum PPUS and Female Pelvic Floor Dysfunction (FPFD). This multicenter project will establish a protocol to predict delivery mode and help monitor the stages of labor. On the other hand, it can detect structural abnormalities of periodic flow before occurrence of clinical symptoms postpartum. I believe it will make progress for the management of FPFD which has a big impact on women's lives.”
Commenting on the launch of the multicenter research, Dora Dong, Mindray’s Deputy Director of Global UIS Clinical Application and Academic Department said, “In the past five years, Mindray has organized 12 multicenter research projects worldwide based on innovative technologies. These projects have accomplished excellent results in academic output and industry-university-research output. Mindray imaging technology has helped to discover more clinical value for ultrasound, which leads to better academic achievements. I believe this project will bring substantial impact to enhancing clinical diagnosis in the SEA & SA region, as well as developing ultrasound technology. Up until now, we have built 10 clinical academic centers around the world, in which over 200 experts and doctors have joined together for exchange in education, research, and technology innovation. Together, I hope that we could create a global platform for a brighter future with ultrasound technology, with you all. Next, we will continue to build the academic exchange platform for Southeast Asia and South Asia, sharing our innovative ideas in ultrasound diagnosis, research, and management with the world.”
In the Radiology session, Dr. I Made Dwijaputra Ayusta spoke about “V flow: An Innovative Vascular Ultrasound”, before Dr. Chinnarat Bua-Ngam closely followed with a presentation on “Practical Points in Thyroid US”. Dr. Xie Xiaoyan further shared about the development and clinical application of interventional ultrasound in China and then Dr.Duangkamon Prapruttam shared her experience in Liver Elastography.
"We will continue to work with experts in Southeast Asia to create more international academic exchanges and cooperation," said Mou Fangyi, General Manager of Mindray Medical in Southeast Asia and South Asia. Mindray Medical will continue to work with more local experts and scholars to build an international academic exchange and cooperation platform, popularize high-end medical technology, and become a core force to protect human health.
