eSpacial Navi: A Step Towards a New Era of Accuracy

Nowadays, ultrasound guidance has been widely used to increase the initial success rate and lower the risk for needle puncture. Yet due to limitations of ultrasound imaging technology, the conventional approach of ultrasound assistance is not without challenges.

Challenge 1: Does the operator have enough experience handling the complicated procedure?

Challenge 2: For the in-plane procedure, is the needle inserted at a proper angle? Is the composition of the needle conducive to its visibility?  Can the needle be kept inside the ultrasound plane?

Challenge 3: For the out-of-plane procedure, are you able to find the needle tip in the image or estimate the intersection point between the tip and the target?

  

 

Let innovation light the way


To tackle the challenges, Mindray has lately released an innovative solution – eSpacial NaviTM 4D magnetic needle navigation technology, which successfully breaks the barriers of the traditional method and sets a new benchmark for ultrasound guidance. 


The first Mindray device incorporating this technology is the newly-updated TE7 Ultrasound System, a proven game changer in the point-of-care domain. With eSpacial NaviTM, TE7 is poised to deliver further improved experience for peripheral nerve block, vascular access, musculoskeletal injections, fine needle aspiration and more applications. To benefit a greater number of users, this technology will also be extended to more Mindray devices in the future. 

Ease-of-use with short learning curve

By visualizing the needle more clearly and providing stronger guidance plus helpful indicators, eSpacial NaviTM largely reduces the operation time, and also shortens the learning curve for less experienced clinical staff.


Enhanced visibility for in-plane puncture

When the in-plane manner is taken, the ultrasound imaging system displays the location of the needle shaft and tip in real time. According to the movement direction of the needle, an extension line is drawn to help the operator plan the trajectory. What's more, the scale of the line can help measure the distance between the needle tip and the target.


Visualizing the invisible out of the plane

For out-of-plane procedure, eSpacial NaviTM displays the projection of the needle and estimates the location of the intersection point between the needle and the ultrasound plane. When the needle tip reaches the ultrasound plane, the rectangular box indicating the projection of the needle turns blue, and the square box shows the exact position of the needle tip. Similar to when the in-plane approach is used, the distance from the target can be easily measured with the scale.


Further enhancement with iNeedle+ TM

Using eSpacial NaviTM in conjunction with iNeedle+ TMMindray’s second generation needle enhancement technology, can take the visibility to an even higher level. iNeedle+ TM automatically tracks the needle angle and accordingly adjusts the direction of the emitted acoustic wave to make sure the needle is displayed as clearly as possible. With the two advanced tools combined, needle puncture has never been easier.
