What it means to be a mother?

Mindray 2019-10-11

If Ironman triathlon or marathons haven't tested your physical endurance enough, try pregnancy.

According to a latest study, pregnancy is equivalent of running a 40-week marathon[i]. And during such long-lasting and high energy-consuming journey, women are faced with numerous challenges ranging across three stages: Pre-pregnancy, Pregnancy, Postpartum Recovery.

These years have witnessed a remarkable increase in the infertility rateAccording to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)[ii]:

12% of women(6.1 million) in the United States ages 15-44 have difficulty getting pregnant or carrying a pregnancy to term.

Infertility may result from a diversity of etiology, and a comprehensive examination should be conducted as soon as possible. However, it is not always easy to make the accurate evaluation and multiple tests are needed prior to final diagnosis.

Apart from this, given the enormous changes in work culture, higher level of female employment rate and educational attainment of women, there is a trend today to delay in childbearing age worldwide, resulting in a steadily expanding population of women who become pregnant after 35.

This accelerating demographic shift is of major clinical and public health concern because advanced maternal age has been associated with adverse maternal and fetal outcomes.[iii]

Considering the escalation in the risk of fetal deformity, ensuring the safety and health of the baby should be the top priority in this period. Nonetheless, it still lacks high quality tools to obtain fetal anatomical information efficiently at present.

Even if you pulled through all the deadlocks and successfully gave birth to a baby, you still need to wrestle with postpartum pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD).

Simply speaking, being pregnant can loosen up your muscles and connective tissues, mainly manifested as pelvic floor relaxation that affects urination. The prime time for the repair is within one year after childbirth, otherwise it may develop into a serious pelvic floor disease.

Contrary to such severe consequence, pelvic floor dysfunction is often not found in time and lack of standardized inspection standards.

Being pregnant is a blessing, however, it's also the toughest job that anyone can embark on.

For Mindray, we are always willing to support and guide every woman throughout the entire pregnancy to ensure the physical and psychological wellbeing of them and their baby.
